We build our shelter out of 12 guage steel, encase it in a concrete tomb, poured on location in a seamless pour.  The steel shelter is tarred on the outside with two heavy coats of asphaltic tar. On the bottom of the shelter there are 2" steel plates running the full length of the shelter every 12" for reinforcement and to anchor the steel shelter into the concrete and give strength to the concrete.

The steel shelter has a 5'x30" wide door, six inches wider than the standard
metal shelter. This size door makes it easy to enter the shelter.
